South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has advised Coast Guard Sector Charleston that their contractor plan to conduct repairs on the damaged Socastee Swing Bridge in Myrtle Beach, SC. The repairs will require the bridge to be closed from October 8th-12th, 2007. The bridge will have a vertical clearance of 10 feet at high tide.
The bridge will be closed to ALL commercial traffic and vessels that exceed the stated vertical clearance for this period. The contractor will have a construction barge with a push tug and a safety boat in the water during the repairs. Small recreational vessels not exceeding the vertical clearance should contact the contractor on VHF channel 13 or 16 to arrange for safe passage.
If you have any questions regarding this matter please contact my representative, Lieutenant Calvin Summers, at (843) 720-3273. If you have any safety concerns, please contact the Coast Guard’s 24 hour operation center on VHF Channel 16 or via phone at 843 724 7616.
