AMI Designates 200th Certified Marina Manager
Friday, June 22, 2007
June 21, 2007 (Washington, DC) -- The International Marina Institute (IMI), a subsidiary of the Association of Marina Industries (AMI), has recently designated its 200th Certified Marina Manager (CMM): Jean-Michel Gaigne, managing director of Saint-Quay Port D’Armor in St. Quay Portrieux, France. This also marks IMI’s first CMM from France.
“IMI’s presence has grown significantly both within the United States and internationally. This past year alone, we’ve awarded the Certified Marina Manager designation to 14 candidates and our international presence is growing exponentially,” says Alex Laidlaw, chairman of AMI. “This is our first Certified Marina Manager from France, as well. Jean-Michel Gaigne’s award is very significant for these two reasons.”
The AMM course provides training in site planning, marina-development skills, marina-operation techniques, business strategies, risks and liabilities, environmental policies, and other topics as final preparation for IMI’s coveted “Certified Marina Manager,” or CMM, designation. Since 1985, hundreds of managers representing 18 nations have completed the AMM training, which includes pre-course assignments, case studies within small groups, and student presentations, as well as interactive workshops and some informal lecture formats within a carefully screened peer group. The intensive training and participatory nature of the course leads to strong networking with experienced colleagues and legitimate long-term contacts within the industry. AMM participants must be AMI members.
Upcoming IMI courses include the Intermediate Marina Manager course in Sydney, Australia, from October 20–25, 2007, and in West Palm Beach, Florida, from November 11–15, 2007; and the Advanced Marina Manager course in Poole Dorset, United Kingdom from November 18–24, 2007, and in West Palm Beach, Florida, from December 10–15, 2007.
The International Marina Institute (IMI) has been training and certifying marina personnel for over 15 years. 200 managers, representing some of the top marinas in the world, have successfully completed IMI’s Certified Marina Manager program. IMI courses and conferences span the globe, including Spain, Australia, England, and regions across the United States.
The Association of Marina Industries (AMI) is a non-profit membership organization that provides management training, education, and information about research, legislation, and environmental issues affecting the marina industry.
