NMD Holds Official Celebration at the Chicago Harbors
Saturday, August 12, 2006
Saturday, August 12, marinas across the country will join together to observe National Marina Day (NMD). National Marina Day is produced by the Association of Marina Industries (AMI) and is an annual nationwide celebration of the role America's marinas play as gateways to boating and stewards of the environment.
2006 marks the 5th anniversary of National Marina Day across America and this year AMI has chosen the Chicago Harbors as the headquarter location to mark the occasion. On hand at the event will be National Marina Day Chairman Bill Anderson of Westrec Marinas, as well as AMI representatives. Activities will include a mini boat show and free motorboat and sailboat rides from the Rainbow Fleet sailing program, which will also include keelboats and dinghies. Other events such as fishing instruction by the Chicago Park District (CPD), and a customer appreciation BBQ with entertainment for the kids are also on the schedule of the day's events. The Chicago Harbors will arrange parking lots so that any Chicago area boater can attend and the marinas will sell fuel at cost to attract boaters from area to participate in a boat parade.
The event held in Chicago will be just one of numerous events nationwide. "We are excited about the continuous growth that National Marina Day has shown over the years and the number of facilities that are joining the festivities as they celebrate NMD for the first time is very encouraging." said Anderson.
After the event, AMI will produce a special 2006 NMD Report that will include pictures and descriptions of activities of marinas celebrating National Marina Day. Upon completion of the event, marinas are encouraged to download and send in the "Report Form for National Marina Day 2006" from AMI's website: www.marinaassociation.org/nmd.
