Dredging the Atlantic ICW
Are we too quick to blame the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or politicians for the lack of ICW dredging? Maybe we should think twice.
Ever checked the websites or promotional literature of coastal destinations to see how many include "arriving by boat" directions, or information on marinas? Destinations are the primary beneficiaries of revenues generated by leisure and commercial traffic on the ICWs from Key West to Boston, yet how many market to boaters?
From a political or investment standpoint, should elected officials or the Corps invest time and money on something the primary beneficiaries seem to place little value on?
There are two sides to every story. Read more on the subject in our next issue's "Thinking Outside the Boat" editorial.
